Pet Registration
All pets (except small caged birds, mammals and fish) which are maintained in government quarters must be registered within three working days in accordance with USAG-AK Regulations 210-11. No appointment is necessary to register pets at the VTF. Bring a copy of your pet’s vaccination records during normal business hours and the staff will issue your paperwork. |
Appointments
All animals are seen by appointment only. The VTF only has two veterinary doctors assigned to the facility so appointments go quickly. Pets must be properly restrained on a leash or in a pet carrier when brought in for appointments. |
Vaccinations
Appointments for vaccinations are typically given on Mondays and Tuesdays at the VTF. |
Children
Children under ten are allowed in the facility while the clinic is open, however it is discouraged. In combination with the small waiting room and the mixed animal population awaiting services, small children are at risk of injury. |
Boarding Pets
No boarding facilities are available through the VTF. A list of kennels in the area is available upon request. Most local kennels require Corona Virus and Bordetella vaccinations for dogs, and Chlamydia and Leukemia vaccinations for cats before they will board your pet. |
Pet Housing
Due to the extreme cold weather in Alaska, many pets are not authorized to live outdoors year round. If you live on post, and plan to leave your animal outside, you must obtain a Cold Weather Certificate from the VTF. This certifies what temperature the animal can safely withstand outside temperatures. |
